AFTER HOURS SESSION

YELLOWUHURU

- Could you share the thoughts and ideas behind this mix?

I often connect records from different genres, eras, and soundscapes during my sets. To bridge the gap between two tracks, I frequently layer a third track as a connector. That's why I requested a setup with three turntables for this performance.

- Can you tell us about your approach to creating mixes?

I chose the tracks while considering the shooting schedule and the vibe of the shop!

- What methods do you prefer when searching for new music? Do you still enjoy browsing for music in record stores, or have you come to prefer online purchases?

I used to check my favorite record stores' websites daily and buy records online, but now I find myself purchasing used records in-store more often than buying new releases online.

- Besides DJing, what stimulates your creativity?

I watch a lot of comedy.  Also, I'm constantly inspired by the things my friends create and the conversations I have with them.

- Do you have any advice for those looking to start a career as a DJ?

I only play tracks I genuinely love.  For those aiming to be dance music DJs, even if you’re not performing in public yet, practicing DJing at home with records could be a great starting point!

- What plans do you have for 2025?

In 2025, my party *FLATTOP* will celebrate its 10th anniversary, and I plan to kick things off with the event on January 10th while also launching it as a label.  I’m determined to pour my energy into *FLATTOP* and my individual DJ activities—looking forward to making it an exciting year!
