AFTER HOURS SESSION

- Could you share the thoughts and ideas behind this mix?

I carefully curated the selection with the goal of expressing my own style, aiming for something that feels comfortable no matter the time of day, yet still offers a sense of something new.

- Can you tell us about your approach to creating mixes?

I mainly organize events aimed at expanding the music and communities of Asia right around us. As a result, my sets are often centered around records from producers I've connected with through these events. While I prioritize playing the tracks I want to share, I also make a conscious effort to create connections between the surrounding tracks—whether through country, era, or mood—always keeping the overall cohesiveness of the mix in mind.

- What methods do you prefer when searching for new music? Do you still enjoy browsing for music in record stores, or have you come to prefer online purchases?

I value being physically present at events and discovering new music, but since the core of what I play consists of tracks from the 70s and 80s, I often dig for them directly at record stores. For new releases, I frequently check the online stores of record shops and make good use of Bandcamp as well.

- Besides DJing, what stimulates your creativity?

I draw a lot of inspiration from friends who are involved in creative pursuits, not just music. I make a conscious effort to stay open-minded by exploring new places, meeting new people, and encountering new things. Regardless of nationality, I often share meals with like-minded friends, talk about our lives, and gain significant influence from those conversations.

- Do you have any advice for those looking to start a career as a DJ?

Experiencing diverse music and communities helps refine your own sense of style. In Tokyo, there are countless record stores, DJ bars, and clubs, each with its own unique vibe despite seeming similar at first glance. I think immersing yourself in these spaces, absorbing what they have to offer, and honing in on the kind of music you truly want to pursue is the way to go.

- What plans do you have for 2025?

I will be DJing in 3 cities in China in February and also in Manila, Philippines. Some of the cities in China will be new to me, so I hope to absorb a lot and come back home with a lot of growth.
