SHOP MECANO
SHOP MECANO specializes in new wave, electronic music, and indie releases, with a carefully curated selection of rare and niche records from Japan and abroad. The store is run by Yasuhiro Nakano, who opened the shop after years of experience at Disk Union. The name MECANO is inspired by the Dutch band "MECANO" and the classic European educational toy "Meccano."
One of SHOP MECANO’s unique features is the detailed commentary cards attached to every item in the store. Nakano himself, known for his work on liner notes for P-MODEL and Kraftwerk’s Japanese releases, provides insights that help customers discover new music.
In recent years, the shop has gained a following among international visitors searching for Japanese underground music through YouTube and other platforms. Despite challenges like rising vinyl prices, SHOP MECANO remains committed to its mission: bringing people new musical encounters.
