WHOLE EARTH RECORD STORE MAP

goripopo records

Open only on Tuesdays from 12:00 to 18:00, goripopo records is a one-of-a-kind record store tucked away near Hitotsubashi-Gakuen Station. Run by Katsumichi Nagai, the shop began with his personal vinyl collection and has since grown into a cozy, genre-crossing haven. From Showa-era Japanese pop (kayōkyoku) to Western rock, soul, and jazz, the selection is eclectic and full of surprises.

The shop’s unique name, “goripopo,” is a blend of “gorilla” and “tanpopo” (dandelion in Japanese)—symbolizing both strength and freedom, like records fluttering out into the world. Located in a basement, the store greets you with walls of vinyl lining the stairwell and a playful, warmly lit interior that invites you to stay a while.

What makes goripopo truly special is the vibrant, spontaneous interaction among customers. People of all ages and tastes naturally strike up conversations, exchanging thoughts on the records they’ve just listened to. It’s a joyful, almost comic book-like setting—nostalgic, yet full of energy.

Reflecting the retro charm of Hitotsubashi-Gakuen itself, goripopo records is a place where vinyl finds new life and unexpected musical encounters await. Whether you're chasing a specific sound or just browsing whimsically, you’ll likely leave with more than just a record—you’ll leave with a story.
