Amsterdam Records is a used record shop in Nakakaigan, Chigasaki, Kanagawa, run by owner Mr. Hashimoto. With jazz at its core, the shop carries a wide range of genres including soul, Latin, reggae, hip-hop, Japanese records, and rock, while placing particular value on original US and European pressings. Mr. Hashimoto’s perspective has been shaped by years of working in record shops in Yokohama and Shibuya, as well as digging in North America, Toronto, and European record fairs centered around the Netherlands. His selection offers encounters with rare grooves, hard-to-find records, and unexpected discoveries. The shop is housed in an old building renovated with the help of a childhood friend who is a carpenter, giving the space a relaxed, handmade atmosphere. Visitors can browse jazz, soul, Latin, world music, hip-hop, 7-inch records, and bargain bins, while taking time to listen and talk with the owner.
