道程 Dotei Records

This time, we visit Dotei Records in Hachioji, Tokyo.
Opened on May 1, 2019, Dotei specializes in used house, techno, and other club music, while also carrying new experimental and independently released records.
Owner Takuro Higuchi runs the shop with a strong DIY spirit—designing and building the store’s fixtures and speakers himself. The shop is also his home, and he regularly embarks on “itinerant DJ tours” to rural areas, bringing music directly to local communities.
Choosing to open in his hometown of Hachioji rather than central Tokyo, Higuchi was driven by a curiosity: “What impact would it have if a record store opened here?” The store’s mission is rooted in a love for local culture and a desire to create a place of musical discovery.
