WHOLE EARTH RECORD STORE MAP

Chikukodo

Located in the heart of Tokyo’s bustling Ameyoko district, Chikkōdō is a long-standing record store with a history that spans over 70 years. Established in the postwar era, the shop started out selling 78 RPM SP records, focusing on traditional Japanese genres like nagauta and early Japanese ballads played on phonographs. As the decades passed and Showa-era icons like Hibari Misora rose to fame, Chikkōdō evolved to reflect the changing times, supporting Japan’s pop music culture as it grew.

Today, the store remains a treasure trove of records from the Showa and Heisei periods. You'll find everything from idol pop and city pop to enka and more—across a truly all-genre catalog. With former regular customers now working behind the counter, the shop is filled with genuine love for music, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

In recent years, Chikkōdō has also become a popular stop for international tourists and younger record collectors. It's a space where music transcends generations and borders—a perfect reflection of Ameyoko’s vibrant, multicultural spirit.
