AFTER HOURS SESSION

ANDY (ISM)

- Could you share the thoughts and ideas behind this mix?

I centered my set around the first record I specifically purchased for today, incorporating a lot of dub elements. I also aimed to traverse a wide range of dance music, reflecting my own eclectic style.

 - Can you tell us about your approach to creating mixes?

I select a few must-use tracks and then choose other songs to complement them. I listen to the structure I've created the next day, rework it, and repeat this process until the mix is just right.

- What methods do you prefer when searching for new music? Do you still enjoy browsing for music in record stores, or have you come to prefer online purchases?

I check out new releases from labels I follow on Bandcamp, listen to used records at my favorite record stores, and sample records on the stores' online sites. I also discover great tracks through conversations with friends.

 - Besides DJing, what stimulates your creativity?

Nature, scenery, people.

- Do you have any advice for those looking to start a career as a DJ?

If you have a DJ among your close friends, it's great to learn from them. Having DJ friends nearby is ideal because you can all chill and DJ together at home. Highly recommended!

- What plans do you have for 2024?

I'm hosting a party called ISM in my hometown of Okayama, and I want to contribute to the local scene in various ways beyond just club events. This includes hosting art exhibitions, organizing communal meals, creating a zine about local hangout spots, and broadcasting local talks via podcasts. I'm committed to making an impact without being constrained by traditional formats.
